I'm so dumb
That I didn't realize that the site del.icio.us spells out "delicious". Actually, this probably has to do with me being so accustomed to made up words and acronyms. Is that scary?

ICANN's authority extended
ICANN's authority over internet names and numbers has been extended to 2011.
There has been some complaining that the UN should oversee this instead of an American corporation. However, the fact that the most recent UN meeting about this was in Tunisia (one of the complaining countries) which is known to severely restrict free speech, is a good picture of what's wrong with the UN.

Planet update
It looks like astronomers are moving towards a consensus, albeit not a unanimous one, about what is a planet. Don't get me wrong. I like astronomy, but I think this is funny.

NASA is forgetful too
Keeping track of a videotape isn't exactly rocket science, but NASA can't find the original videotape of the first moon landing. I guess its kind of like losing your car keys?
Skype more popular than Myspace
Free stuff is popular. Imagine that. Also, the article mentions that myspace actually made enough money to pay for News Corp's purchase price off the Google deal alone.
A planet by any other name...
Astronomers can't agree on whether Pluto is a planet. Does it really matter?
Myspace and 24
As if Myspace.com and the TV show 24 weren't already addictive enough on their own, they are now together.

Whatcha gonna do when the kitty cat comes for you?
When your mom tells you to look both ways before crossing the street, you better listen.
Left is better than alright?
Left handed men make more money on average than right handed men. Hmmm.
Because when I'm not reading my email, I want to read about email on the internet?
This article reads way too much into your personality based on your email habits. I like Gmail. I can organize as much or as little as I want (in my case it's more like little), and I can easily find stuff by searching. I have started using search in Outlook as well, but it's not as fast.
More Wikipedia News
Looks like someone just discovered that Wikipedia is not always an accurate source of information.
I want to resist the urge to say, "well duh", but I just can't. Wikipedia contains lots of good information, but it isn't guaranteed to be authoritative. You should never rely on a single source for serious professional or academic work anyway.

Data on a single molecule
Looks like the trend of digital storage getting smaller and smaller will continue.

Apple and MS both hacked at hacker's convention
Apple owners should recognize that the logo on their notebook isn't a security feature.
MS did a presentation for the Black Hat conference, but over in another room someone was explaining how Vista is vulnerable.

Women and plasma TV's
A new survey says that women prefer plasma TV's to diamonds. I am suspicious though. I think that the value of the plasma TV and other electronic goodies is skewing the results. People will usually want a more valuable item.

Tax repealed!
Only the rich have phones. Well, that was true in 1898. A tax was imposed on telephone use to help fund the Spanish American war. The war ended, phones became more common, but the tax still hung around. Now the long-distance portion of the tax is finally going away.
This is a good example of how when politicians talk about taxing "the rich", the taxes often affect almost everyone. Another example is the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).

DRM and fair use
This is an interesting article about digital rights management (DRM). Obviously Sony has their own vested interest, but I think the executive had some good points.
